Endodontic treatment can often save a damaged or infected tooth while relieving the pain that comes with it. If you're experiencing symptoms, we're ready to help.
Do I Need a Root Canal?
If you’re experiencing tooth pain that seems to be getting progressively worse, it might be worth consulting with your dentist, and root canal treatment may be required.
At Border Country Dental dental clinic, we don't want you to prevent treatment out of fear. Root canal treatment is not complicated, and dental anesthesia can be used to help numb and relax the patient; this procedure can help prevent a tooth from requiring an extraction.
If you think you might need an emergency root canal treatment. We are here for you!
Endodontic Specialists for Grand Forks Patients
When specialized care is required, we refer patients to endodontists for root canal therapy and advanced endodontic treatment.
The Root Canal Procedure
Dentists typically complete a root canal treatment over two appointments.
First Appointment
The dentist will begin by creating a tiny access hole in the upper portion of the tooth. Various files will be used during this stage to find the canals and sterilize the dead pulp tissue to eliminate the tooth's infection.
A temporary filling is used to seal the upper part of the tooth. Your dentist may prescribe a course of antibiotics depending on the severity of the infection.
Second Appointment
During your second appointment, the small access hole will be reopened, and your dentist will file and sterilize the tooth once more. A special filling material will be used to replace the tooth's nerve within the canals. To complete the procedure, a permanent filling will be used to seal the tooth.
The Benefits of a Root Canal
There are many benefits of root canal treatment. Despite the obvious benefit of restoring the tooth and preventing tooth extraction, other benefits may include but not limited to:
- Relieves tooth pain and discomfort
- Removes infection from inside the tooth
- Restores normal chewing and biting function
- Protects surrounding teeth from shifting
- Prevents infection from spreading to nearby tissues
- Restores oral health and comfort
